A smile that changes everything – The next step in our Himalayan project

After the successful completion of the first part of our project in mid-2024, where we were able to renovate and secure the school playground in the remote village of Hill, I realized that this was just the beginning.
The joy and smiles of the children and the knowledge that we can hopefully provide them with a better foundation for their future lives are deeply engraved in my mind.

A spark that continues to burn

In the following weeks, I had several video calls with my Sherpa Aang Gombu to discuss how we could continue our support and uncover further problems in the region.
In October 2023, we were already able to supply a second school near Hill with school materials.
Here, too, we were notified of defects in the schoolyard and classrooms that urgently needed to be repaired.

Thanks to a friend in Switzerland and the charity organization she works for, we were able to act quickly.
Together, we made sure that the children received thick winter jackets for the upcoming winter – a necessity in this cold and harsh region.
We were also able to winterize the classroom floors, which had been damaged by the frost.
The children’s playground was also made safe by our measures, as the pictures show.

A moving message from the Himalayas

Gombu recently visited the village to deliver the jackets in person and to see the progress we have made together.
His message to me was full of joy and gratitude:

“Hi Max.
I came back to Kathmandu last night.
The above are the pictures of Jacket distribution to 16 students and 4 school staff including the principal.
They were so happy that they were asking where you are coming back.
They were curious who is the sponsor and I explain how this is possible and they clearly remember you from our last trip to Hill.
They were also grateful with me for coordinating the project and finding out their problems.
And more is they were so grateful for the concrete flooring in classrooms.”

The journey continues

But this is not the end of the story.
Through our work, we have made contact with other, even more remote schools, which have described their problems to us.
We are currently in contact with a third school, analyzing the challenges there and hoping to be able to help the children there too.

So it remains exciting.
I am infinitely grateful for the great support we have received so far and which has made all of this possible!
Let’s keep going together and give the children in the Himalayas a better future.
